Team History

The Los Angeles Angels were founded in 1961 as an MLB expansion team (one of the first to be created after a long period without new clubs). Their first owner was the famous actor and businessman Gene Waters. The name "Angels" comes from an old team of the same name that played in Los Angeles in the early 20th century. The team initially played their home games at Dodger Stadium, which they shared with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but in 1966 they moved to the new Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. After the move, the club changed its name to the California Angels to cover all of California. Over the years, the Angels built a dedicated fan base and developed rivalries with teams like the Oakland Athletics and the Texas Rangers.

In 2003, the team was bought by Arte Moreno, the first Latino owner in MLB. He made some major changes, including rebranding the team as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2005–2015) and then simply the Los Angeles Angels (since 2016). In the 2010s, the team acquired Mike Trout, one of the greatest players of our time, who won several MVP awards. The team also featured Shohei Ohtani, a unique Japanese baseball player who became a superstar as a pitcher and batter. However, despite the star-studded roster, the Angels did not have much success in the playoffs and continued to struggle to get into the postseason. Still, their dynamic style of play and commitment to rebuilding have kept them as one of the most intriguing teams in Major League Baseball.

The real breakthrough came in 2002, when the Angels won the MLB World Series for the first time in their history. Under manager Mike Saucy and featuring stars like Troy Glos, Garrett Anderson, and Darren Erstad, the Angels defeated the San Francisco Giants in seven games. That title remains the team`s only, but it cemented the Angels as a serious contender in the American League. The team has continued to rebuild in recent seasons and is trying to strengthen its roster to compete for titles again. Ohtani left for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the Angels are hoping that Mike Trout and young talent can help return the team to the top ranks of MLB clubs.
