Tyler Anderson was born on December 30, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. He attended Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas, where he excelled as a pitcher. Despite his talent, he was not heavily recruited out of high school and went on to play college baseball at the University of Oregon.
At Oregon, Anderson developed into a standout pitcher under head coach George Horton. In his junior year (2011), he posted an impressive ERA of 2.17 and set the school record for career strikeouts. His strong college career made him a top prospect for the MLB draft.
In the 2011 MLB Draft, Anderson was selected 20th overall by the Colorado Rockies. He spent several years developing in the minor leagues, dealing with injuries that delayed his MLB debut.
On June 12, 2016, Anderson finally made his MLB debut for the Rockies. He impressed in his rookie season, finishing with a 3.54 ERA in 19 starts. Over the next few seasons, he became a key part of the Rockies' rotation, but injuries and inconsistencies led to him being released after the 2019 season.
After leaving Colorado, Anderson signed short-term deals with the San Francisco Giants (2020) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2021). In 2022, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he had a career-best season. He went 15-5 with a 2.57 ERA and earned his first All-Star selection.
Following his breakout season, Anderson signed a three-year, $39 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels in November 2022. Although his 2023 season was not as dominant as his time with the Dodgers, he remained a reliable starter for the Angels.
